The same coast, two ways to ride it
The Blue Line Park's two rides share the corridor of the old Donghae Nambu railway, but they offer completely different experiences, and choosing between them is the first real decision of any visit. The Sky Capsule is the elevated, private, slow and premium ride; the Beach Train is the ground-level, shared, faster and cheaper one. Neither is 'better' — they're for different things, and plenty of people ride both.
The Sky Capsule: the experience
The capsule is the headline. Small four-person pods in pastel red, blue, yellow, green and pink glide along an elevated track seven to ten metres above the shore, at a gentle four kilometres an hour, for about thirty minutes between Mipo and Cheongsapo. It's fully private to your party, with full-glass windows and an unobstructed sea view, and it's the ride people travel to Busan for. The trade-off is the price — it's sold per pod, one-way, at roughly ₩40,000 to ₩50,000 — and the need to book ahead at busy times.
The Beach Train: the distance
The Beach Train is the practical one. A slower, ground-level train in open, shared carriages, it runs the longer route — about 4.8 kilometres and six stops, all the way to Songjeong Beach — right at the shoreline. At around ₩8,000 to ₩16,000 per person depending on the pass, it's a fraction of the capsule's cost, and it's the way to actually cover the coast rather than just glide a short, scenic stretch. It's also much more walk-up-friendly.
The best of both: one each way
For most visitors the ideal is not either/or but both, in sequence: ride the Sky Capsule one-way from Mipo to Cheongsapo for the elevated sea-side glide, explore the fishing village and its lighthouses, then take the Beach Train (or walk the coastal path) back toward Haeundae or on to Songjeong. That way you get the capsule's experience and the train's reach in a single half-day, and only need to pre-book the capsule slot.
If you only pick one
On a tight budget or short on time, the Beach Train alone is a lovely, cheap coastal ride and no embarrassment to choose. But if you can stretch to it, the Sky Capsule is the one that makes the trip memorable — the private pod over the sea is genuinely special, and it's what nearly everyone means when they talk about the Blue Line Park. Book the capsule, and treat the train as the easy way home.
